The FCBA Foundation Charity Auction to Benefit Kid Power-DC

Washington, D.C. – The Young Lawyers Committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association ("FCBA") and the FCBA Foundation held their 18th Annual Charity Auction on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the Marriott at Metro Center, 775 12th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Kid Power-DC has been selected to receive the proceeds from this year's Charity Auction. Founded in 2002, Kid Power-DC is a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing in-school and after-school enrichment activities for children living in the city's underserved communities. Its academic, artistic, and civic engagement programs focus on fostering intellectual and social development and aim to keep children on the path to becoming responsible citizens who will make a positive contribution to their communities.

Kid Power-DC's programs include the Citizenship Project, in which students and their mentors explore local history and civic themes through literacy-building and service-learning activities; the Kids Corps, which enables students to develop and manage social entrepreneurship projects; and the Creative Communities program, where students voice their views on community issues through a variety of visual and performing art productions. Further expanding students' horizons, Kid Power-DC recently brought a youth group to the Dominican Republic to work collaboratively with local children on a service project and to improve global and cultural awareness.

The Charity Auction is one of Washington, D.C.'s premier "must-attend" events for the communications industry. The event features a live auction, silent auctions, raffles, and food and drinks. As in the past, prizes are expected to include vacation packages, electronics products, tickets to various sporting events (including Redskins, Wizards, Capitals, and Nationals games), Verizon Center events, theater tickets, dinners, lunches, spa packages, and gift certificates from area businesses. Proceeds from the Charity Auction are donated to the auction beneficiary.

Over the past seventeen years, the Charity Auction has raised over $725,000 for DC-based organizations including Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc., the D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center, STEP/I Have a Dream, the Charitable Coalition for Children with Cancer, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now, and Fair Chance, which last year received over $86,000.00 in auction proceeds.
