UPDATE 4/16/2020 — Fair Chance will continue to operate remotely through Friday, May 15, 2020.
Dear Friends of Fair Chance,
As the COVID-19 Outbreak continues, Fair Chance is monitoring the needs of the nonprofit sector and our community. In these uncertain times, what keeps us grounded is staying connected and remembering what truly matters. What matters most to us is keeping our community healthy and supporting community-based nonprofits providing vital services for children and families experiencing poverty. As this situation evolves, Fair Chance is committed to doing the following:
Continuing to Serve our Partners: Fair Chance is now a fully remote office and will remain so until April 24. Our day-to-day operations continue as normal and we will continue to provide our capacity building services to our nonprofit partners via video conference.
Supporting our Nonprofit Network: The nonprofits in our network serve the most vulnerable children and families in our region. COVID-19 has impacted the way our nonprofit partners operate and the effects of this disruption may last for some time. One of our partners shared the following with us:
We serve low-income middle school students attending DC schools. We utilize local university student volunteers to deliver health education (sexual health, mental health, and nutritional health) and physical activity in schools. All of our schools are closed and about 95% of our college student volunteers have also returned to their homes indefinitely. Our programs are paused until further notice.
We are committed to actively engaging our network to see how best we can use our resources and partnerships to support and advocate for their needs and the needs of those they serve.
Educating and Engaging our Supporters: It is heartwarming to see how neighbors and strangers are coming together to support one another during this challenging time. Through email and social media, we are committed to sharing how you can best support both community-based nonprofits and children and families experiencing poverty in our region.
I am honored to count you as a friend of Fair Chance. I invite you to continue to engage with us and our nonprofit network to ensure children and families experiencing poverty are protected during this crisis.
